Original oil painting and oil pastel on gallery canvas.  Ready to hang. 16"x20"

Making purely abstract work is where I feel the most free and creative. I sometimes feel sad that not everyone feels that they can understand and connect to abstract work, but I continue to make it because it feels true to who I am. When I go into the studio, playing with color and texture and different mediums to create something unknown and raw feels curious and playful and thoughtful. It's like being a child, getting lost in play. That feeling is healing for me. The work I do when I'm in this state brings something into the world that is hopeful and healing. If you are drawn to this piece, I want you to know that this is how and why I created it. I hope it brings you a sense of childhood innocence, curiosity, and joy. Even if your childhood was full of pain and chaos, I believe you came into this world a perfect being with a beauty in just being you. Other people and circumstances cause us to react and change, but our bodies and minds were created to protect us and do good. You are here for a reason.

You may see in my paintings the hardness of life – the grief, sadness, anger, and hurt – while also offering the idea that there is hope for healing and growth through the struggle. It is intended to inspire you to live at peace with the complexity of a world full of storms and sunshine - while we mourn the deep loss we each experience, we still seek reasons for hope and joy.

More than any other possession, art is the one thing that brings joy to a home or workplace. Each time I look at art, I feel joy, connection, hope, and sometimes catharsis. I very much hope that my artwork does the same for you.

ADDITIONAL POLICIES AND FAQS: Color nuances cannot be captured perfectly by digital media and vary from screen to screen. Jess’ paintings are often purposely abstracted, up for interpretation. Some markings are flawed purposefully and thus affects the nature of the artwork as a finished piece. You'll be able to enjoy the natural brushstrokes and the ability to "see" the process in the finished piece.Copyright: As is true with all art under U.S. law, the artist retains reproduction rights and copyright of her created pieces unless she has expressly given her written and signed consent. Note: An artist's decision to reproduce an original for printing tends to increase the value of an original work.
